Boat
tours on Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. They load on
land, drive into the lagoon ...
|
...
and motor through the icebergs breaking off the glacier. The lagoon
covers 7 square miles and is 800 feet deep in spots. Saltwater backing
up the river prevents the lagoon from freezing.

It
was quite windy! It was a chilly walk out and a warm wind assisted the
walk back. We could actually feel the warmth of the sun.
|
We
had a great time walking, looking at the many shapes, sizes and colors
of the icebergs. And the sun was shining!

This
was a shorter walk in Skaftafell National Park.
|
One
of the many glaciers we saw today. The scenery was spectacular, so happy
the sun was out!

This
is the Diamond Beach. Icebergs from the lagoon float down the river
and wash up on the black sand beach of the Atlantic Ocean.
|
Towards the end of the day, the landscape changed to volcanic lava rock covered with yellow moss. | |||||||||||||
