Skjol to T-Baer - The Golden Circle .................. 170 km (102 mi)

Kerio Crater. A volcanic cone that collapsed & filled with water. Nice hike around the rim & down at the lake. One of the few Icelandic outdoor sites that charge admission.
Gullfoss waterfall. This waterfall has 2 stages. The upper drops 35 ft & the lower drops 75 ft into a narrow gorge.
This is the upper fall. Raincoats required for the spray.
Saw lots of bicyclers touring. Very scary. The roads are narrow with no shoulders.
Geysir geothermal field. A view from a great hiking trail. The crowds are waiting for the Strokkur geyser to erupt. It goes about every 10 minutes for a very short photo opportunity. We continued to miss it.
Geothermal field steams boils & bubbles continually. The water is 80 to 100 deg C (over 200 F)
The Golden Circle is a classic day trip from Reykjavík. Many, many rental cars, RVs & tour buses. The roads are quite narrow on spots. Sometimes 1 lane road with pullouts along one side that you have to move into if it’s on your side.
Pingvellir Nat’l Park. This area is where the North American & Eurasian tectonic plates meet. There are slowly moving apart. There are trails thru gorge. As you walk you’re tracing the boundaries of the continents.
Oxararfoss waterfall along the trail.
Linda between the plates! Photo is looking south so N America is under her left hand. No earthquake!!!
