We're here!!! Arrived at 63 degrees latitude south at 7 am. OMG!!! This is a wonderous place and a study in greyscale except for patches of ice blue. Woke up also to snow....sweet little soft dots on our faces on the deck. Temp is now about 29-30 and sun comes & goes. Our ship is cruising along the Cuverville island and will continue down the peninsula later into Paradise Bay. The terrain is very moutainous & rocky with big chunks of ice in the waters from calving off the ridges. We can only see Adelie and Gentoo penguins with binoculars. Will try to get pics as we get closer to shore. Lots of penguins diving in & out of water like dolphins but good luck getting a pic. Passed a Chilean and Argentine station and an Argentine Navy ship while cruising Paradise Bay.
Our
new favorite thing is to walk around the promenade deck over and over taking pics
of all of this amazing site. The only way to describe it is to say it's like seeing
the peaks of the Himalayas and Mt McKinney/Denali all in one day over and over
again....then when the sunlight hits the ice fields/icebergs it all changes. Some
of the icebergs are bigger than a house or an office bldg. They all have funny
shapes of course---snoopy, kitty, Volkswagen, ships. Some have seals on them like
in Alaska. Getting colder & windier outside so here in library (yay!) having
a cup of tea and trying desperately to describe this to all of you. It simply
is magnificent!
Going to a movie about Shackleton's expedition and then "maybe"
get to see one or both of the playoff games. But if not, who cares----we can just
look out the window!!
We
are watching the Denver game right now!! Niners next----weeeeoooo
