Sightseeing ... Trains & bus - Brunswick, ME to St. Paul, MN

Our day started early Tuesday morning with a walk from our hotel to the Amtrak station in Brunswick. Our first train was the Downeaster to Boston, a 3 hour ride.

In Boston, we took the subway to a different station for our next train, the Lake Shore Limited, 23 hours to Chicago. Fortunately, there was an assistant to help us buy tickets and find the right subway. The train left around noon. We didn't sleep much as the air conditioning was quite cool, our raincoats didn't make the best blankets! We arrived at Union station in Chicago mid morning. Next, we took a bus ride up to Madison, WI and met up with Linda's sister Karen and family for an overnight visit. Enjoyed chatting, a home cooked meal, good sleep and the beautiful weather.

Thursday, Kar dropped us off at the Amtrak station in Columbus,WI for our next 5 hour train ride, on the Empire Builder, to St. Paul. We're staying here for a week visiting family before we head on to Portland.

Catching the Van Gelderland bus from Union Station in Chicago heading to Madison, WI.
Didn't have time to explore this time. Looks like a very fun place to visit.

Aunt Bev (on Linda's side of the family) sent us these seat cushions.
We laughed pretty hard, then we put them to use!
