Sightseeing ... Belfast, ME to Bar Harbor, ME
We enjoyed sightseeing with a rental car. It is different not to be peddling! One day we drove up to Bangor and met Roxy's brother Bob for lunch. He was returning from New Brunswick after delivering a trailer. On the way back we stopped at Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Fort Knox State Historic Site near Bucksport. Another day we drove about 60 miles north to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It was raining when we started out but the day cleared and we were provided with spectacular coastal views.

Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory. We took the elevator 42 stories to
observatory at the top of the left tower.
--

The only observatory bridge in the Western Hemisphere & the tallest in the world.

--

Looking out at Bucksport and the Penobscot River from the top of the bridge tower.
Great views if you don't mind heights!

Ft Knox, ME. The 1st & largest granite fort built in ME. Constructed between1844 ~ 1864.
Never fully completed. The arched openings are where the cannon ports are.
The grassy area outside (but still within the Fort) also had cannon mounts.
--

The entire Fort is made of granite & brick! this is one of the areas where
the "little" cannons were mounted.

--

Several granite staircases between levels. The workmanship is amazing.
Imagine the effort required to move, cut & set each piece!
--

A 10" Rodman cannon. We couldn't lift the cannon ball to load it...bummer.

--

15" Rodman cannon. 12 men needed to load it. The tube weighs 50,000 lbs,
solid cannon ball was 450 lbs, 2 men on the rammer, gunpowder 100 lbs. OMG!
--

Great views from Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park.
--

Looking down at Bar Harbor.
--

Watching the boats come into Bass Harbor from the Atlantic Ocean near the
Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse. Stunning views!

--

Sand Beach in Acadia NP. As we were playing in the sand, a wave quickly washed
way our drawing. The slate is clean for a new adventure......
we have so many great memories and all of you contributed!
