Day
77 - Boonville, NY to Blue Mountain Lake, NY - 60
miles ..... 3572
total miles
We started the day with a couple steep climbs out of Boonville,
then continued rolling up and down thru forests, past lakes and rivers. This is
a big recreation area, many cars passed us with kayaks, canoes and bikes. We stopped
for lunch in Old Forge, a popular tourist area. Since it was Sunday the crowds
were huge. We found a small quiet bistro and enjoyed a tasty lunch followed by
a cinnamon roll for desert from Nathan's Bakery. Yum! We're spending the night
inside at the Blue Mountain Lake Inn as thunderstorms are in the forecast. About
5 miles from here we noticed Linda's back tire was low, we pumped it up and hoped
it would hold. It got us here but was loosing air. We changed the tire and found
a tiny piece of glass causing the leak. We also noticed the tire is very worn,
hopefully it will hold out until we find a bike shop!
Day 78 - Blue
Mountain Lake, NY to Ticonderoga, NY - 73
miles ..... 3645
total
The day was humid and misty but no rain. We rode up and down hills
thru forests in the Adirondacks, warming us up for the Green and White Mountains.
Some of the hills were steep, but we did have a chance to roll down. We stopped
for a break at a cafe in Newcomb and enjoyed chatting with the owners and customers
as we ate. The New York folks have been really friendly. Rolled downhill the last
couple miles into Ticonderoga, great way to finish a long day. Relaxing this evening
and looking at our route into Vermont tomorrow. We're on to the last Adventure
Cycling map, hard to believe we're closing in on the east coast!

Cool
use of an old structure. Inside has showers, toilets, bingo, arcade games, tv,
kitchen & laundry. It's a community gathering spot when not used for the campground. |
Trying
to spread the tent out so it can dry a little before we leave. |
A
view of the Moose River from a bridge. |
Roxy's
using the wifi from this restaurant while we take a break. |
This
place looks much better from the outside, it has lots of potential, needs a bunch
of TLC! |
The
porch was a highlight at the Blue Mountain B & B. |
Lots
of beautiful trees & shrubs. Starting to miss the wide open spaces of Alaska
& Arizona. |
Lots
of construction on our way to Ticonderoga. Good time to take a break! |
Just
a hint of the colors to come. |
Yikes,
we thought it was going to be downhill to the Atlantic! |
