Day 35 - Miles City, MT to Terry, MT - 39 miles ........... 1432 total miles
Started the day with cooler temp, we had to dig out long-sleeved shirts! We also had a bit of rain and a strong headwind. The rain stopped, the headwind did not. Continued rolling thru wide open countryside where there is nothing to block the wind. Stopped at an overlook at the confluence of the Powder and Yellowstone Rivers with information about Undaunted Stewardship, an organization that helps preserve important historic sites on privately owned range land. We're staying tonight in the small town of Terry at the Historic Kempton Hotel. It's over 100 years old, cool place to stay! Wouldn't you know, the owners Russ & Linda Schwartz, are from Fairbanks. The evening slipped away as we chatted on the porch reminiscing about life in Alaska, small world.
We realize many of you do not know us personally. We're both retired and in our late 50's. Roxy was born and raised in Fairbanks, Alaska. This is the first June or July ever she's not been in Alaska! Linda was born and grew up in Minnesota. She left for Alaska after high school and stayed. A bicycle trip across the US has been a dream of ours for over 30 years. We hoped to do it when we were much younger but could never get 3 months off work. After retiring, we've been snowbirds in Arizona, returning to Fairbanks in the summer. Last year we sold our home in Fairbanks. We are currently happily homeless, with few responsibilities or commitments and not much stuff. It's the perfect time to pursue our dream.

The things we find as we ride along. This is at an unmarked site along Old Hwy 10. It is one of the preserved historic sites. Has a short walk with other signboards describing life in the area.

The location was beautiful. We are overlooking the Yellowstone River & Terry Badlands.

Lots of wide open spaces!
