Day
27 - Three Forks, MT to Belgrade. MT - 24 miles .....
1070 total miles
We had a great day to ride!
Took a frontage road that didn't have lots of traffic going our way. Cooler temperatures,
rolling hills and shorter day. Roxy had the first flat of the trip. Thanks to
Vanessa at Landis Cycles in Tempe for the tire changing clinic! A little bit of
wire from a shredded steel belted tire got thru to the tube. Oh well, one flat
between us is really good. Rode into the Bozeman airport in Belgrade to rent a
car so we could drive up to Big Sky to visit Julie (Linda's sister). Got a mini
van that we were able to put the bikes in without taking them apart. The Pickle
Barrel was recommended to us by friends for lunch, so we went in search. Found
it right by the university. Good choice, great sandwiches! Drove 40 miles up the
Gallatin River to Big Sky. Met Julie at her art gallery, The Gallatin River Gallery.
She represents artists that create one-of-a-kind artwork, sculptures, paintings
and jewelry mainly. Big Sky is a town of 4000 with 2 busy seasons. Skiing in the
winter & outdoor recreation in the Rockies in July & August. It is about
an hour drive to the west entrance of Yellowstone NP. Coming up the canyon we
saw hundreds of people fishing, rafting and kayaking on the Gallatin River. The
summer season is just starting to take off. We had a relaxing evening and dinner
at a local Mexican restaurant with Julie and her friend Mac.
Day 28
& 29 - Big Sky, MT - REST days
Spent one
day relaxing in Julie's comfortable condo. Watched a little golf on TV. Did errands
in Bozeman one day, it's a treat to have a vehicle! Both afternoons there were
huge thunderstorms, which is not uncommon here in the Rockies. Quite happy to
experience them indoors and not in the tent! Having a nice dinner tonight with
Jules & Mac, much appreciated home cooked meal, shrimp and steak on the grill
and good company!

Our
first flat in over 1,000 miles! Not bad and it didn't go flat again. Success! |
We
rented a van to drive up to Big Sky. Don't know if we'll get Roxy out of it! |
