Day 13 - Baker City, OR to Halfway, OR - 52 miles ... 478 total miles

What a difference a day makes! We woke up to sunny skies and 45 degrees. The day warmed quickly as we climbed the first hill. On the climb out of Baker City we crossed the Oregon Trail. Spectacular scenery all day, 360 degree views, felt like we could see forever, big snowy mountains to the west and north. We dropped thru a canyon and followed the Powder River for awhile and then climbed to Richland, pop.147. A friendly local couple recommended a cafe, as we were about to order Jez and then Mel rode up and joined us for lunch. A big climb followed lunch with more spectacular scenery and a quick downhill into Halfway where we found Jez and Mel again sipping smoothies. There's a theme here....meeting up with cyclists where there's food! We're staying in Halfway tonight. Mel and Jez are heading down the road, don't expect to see them but hope we do, they are really nice guys. Halfway population is 337.
