TOURNAMENT INFORMATION AND RULES:
Coaches meeting at Dobson High at 8:30, Saturday, October 1, 2005. Play begins at 9:00 AM. Tournament Fee is $50, check or PO made out to Dobson Badminton. Bring a tube of bird, pre-wet and ready for use. Both gyms will be used. This is a consolation tournament with 3rd thru 8th place place-offs. It will guarantee every player or doubles team at least 2 games. Win the first game and move to the right with the quarter losers playing off for 5th thru 8th and semifinal losers playing off for 3rd and 4th. Loss the first game and move to the left with a consolation winner and runner-up declared. The snack bar will be open in the hallway for food and drink from 10 AM - 2 PM. There will be no lunch break. Awards will be medals with drapes for singles and doubles for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, Consolation Winner, and Consolation Runner-up. There is no team championship award as this is for singles and doubles players only. There will be a coaches hospitality room for coaches only with food and beverages. My best guess is that the tournament will be over around 5:30PM. Questions call 480-472-3054 and speak to the athletic secretary or e-mail me, Coach Ellis (my phone 472-3066) at nlellis@fastq.com.

Special scoring: If a 3rd game is needed, then this 3rd game will be played with rally or speed scoring. This means that every serve scores a point. If you lose the serve, your opponent gets the serve and a point. Both Singles and Doubles will use rally scoring in the 3rd game and singles will play to 11 and doubles will play to 15 points. NO SETTING is allowed IN THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT. This special scoring is for all games including the finals. The rest of the scoring is by the book. There is also NO coaching between games. Players will not leave the courts so bring water in a closed-lid container to the court. If you must play a 3rd game, just switch sides after the 2nd and begin play ... no coaching visits during the match. Since we have so many games, there will be no setting allowed in this tournament. The first team to 11 in singles or 15 in doubles is the winner. Continuous play is required between games 1 & 2 and between games 2 & 3. No breaks during the entire match. Remember only bottled water with a lid will be allowed on the courts and should only be used between games.

We will begin Singles and Doubles in both gyms at 9 am.

If you make the quarter finals on the winner's side of the bracket … stick around because, win or lose, you will receive a medal between 1st and 8th place… these playoffs are at the bottom of the brackets if you lose during the quarter finals or semi-finals.

T-Shirts will be sold for $10.00 and the concession stand in the hallway will be open from 10 AM to 2 PM for your convenience. Please remind your athletes to bring money for these items.

Click here for an entry blank. ... All Schools are welcome to enter 6 athletes, 2 singles players and 2 doubles teams, either 4A or 5A schools may enter.

Dobson Invitational Rules and Information

1. Entry Fee is $50 and a tube of birds, pre-wet and ready for use.

2. Matches are numbered. Play will be continuous. As soon as one match is finished, the next match will start. There are many many matches to be played and the invitational will run from approx. 9-5:30. PLAY IS CONTINUOUS BETWEEN GAMES. No coaching and no player leaves the floor. Bring water in a closed-lid container to the court. Drinking water should only happen between games.

3. During all matches, players are to remain on the court. If an emergency arises, the players will go to the back of the court and raise their racket. We will have a trainer on site.

4. No coaching from any spectators, parents, or coaches during the games. No visits by the coach to the court between games 1 and 2 or between games 2 and 3. Remember that rally or speed scoring applies to game #3 with no setting and the game is played to 11 in singles and 15 in doubles. No setting is allowed in this tournament so all games are over when the first person reaches 11 points in singles or 15 points in doubles. Each court will have a score card and a score keeper who is not official.

5. After a match, winners must promptly return used shuttles and score sheets to the head table.

6. Substitutions may take place up to the player's first match provided the substitute has not been placed in another position within the tournament.

7. Awards: Medals with drapes to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and consolation winners and runner-ups for both singles and doubles winners.

8. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated on the courts. Use of profanity on the court or verbal intimidation toward an opponent will result in disqualification and forfeit of the match.

9. Coaches meeting at 8:30 in the PE Classroom with Singles and Doubles play beginning at 9 am. Donuts and juice will be there with pizza coming in for lunch for coaches only.

10. Both gyms (9 courts with good viewing in the bleachers) will be used for most of the tournament.

11. If you make the quarter finals on the winner's side of the bracket … stick around because, win or lose, you will receive a medal between 1st and 8th place… these playoffs are at the bottom of the brackets if you lose during the quarter finals or semi-finals.

SPECIAL SCORING: If a 3rd game is needed, then this 3rd game will be played with rally scoring. This means that every serve scores a point. If you lose the serve, your opponent gets the serve and a point. Both Singles and Doubles will use rally scoring in the 3rd game and singles is over at 11 and doubles at 15 points. NO SETTING is allowed in this invitational. This special scoring is for all games including the finals. The rest of the scoring is by the book. There is also NO coaching between games. Players will not leave the courts so bring water in a closed-lid container to the court.

COACHING BETWEEN GAMES: There will be no coaching by the coach or anyone else between games. This is a fun tournament for the athletes. Remember, PLAY IS CONTINUOUS BETWEEN GAMES.

GUARANTEES: You will get to play 2 games. This is not a double elimination tournament, you will not get 2 losses. This is a consolation bracket tournament. If YOU LOSE YOUR SECOND GAME, you are out of the tournament, whether you won your first game or not. The first game determines whether you will move to the right side (winner's bracket) or the left side (consolation bracket). We have added a drop from the winner's side quarter finals into a play-off bracket for 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
