2001 Dobson Invitational

Coaches meeting at Dobson High at 8:30, Saturday, Sep.29, 2001. Play begins at 9:00 AM. This Invitational will always be the last Saturday in September. Tournament Fee is $50. Bring a tube of bird, pre-wet and ready for use. Both gyms will be used. This is a consolation tournament with a 3rd place place-off. It will guarantee every player or team at least 2 games. Win the first game and move to the right with the quarter and semi-final losers playing off for 3rd and 4th. Loss the first game and move to the left with a consolation winner declared. The snack bar will be open in the hallway for food and drink. There will be no lunch break. Awards will be a trophy for the first place singles winner and 2 trophies for the first place doubles team. Medals with drapes will also be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and Consolation Winner. There is no team championship award as this is for singles and doubles players only. There will be a coaches hospitality room for coaches only with food and beverages. My best guess is that the tournament will be over around 3 pm. Questions call 480-472-3054 and speak to the athletic secretary, Jan Laufer or email me, Coach Ellis at the email link at the bottom of this page.

Special scoring: There will be no 3rd games played in this tournament. If each team wins a game, then we will add the scores together to determine a winner. If the score is still tied, then the winner of the second game is the winner of the match. This special scoring is for all games including the finals. The rest of the scoring is by the book. There is also NO coaching between games.

We will begin Singles in both gyms at 9 am and at approx. 9:30 Doubles will begin in both gyms as courts open.

Dobson Invitational Rules and Information ..... .....Saturday, September 29, 2001

1. Entry Fee is $50 and a tube of birds, pre-wet and ready for use.

2. Matches are numbered. Play will be continuous. As soon as one match is finished, the next match will start. There are 102 matches to be played and the invitational will run from approx. 9-3. PLAY IS CONTINUOUS BETWEEN GAMES.

3. During all matches, players are to remain on the court. If an emergency arises, the players will go to the back of the court and raise their racket.

4. No coaching from any spectators, parents, or coaches during the games. No visits by the coach to the court between games 1 and 2.

5. After a match, winners must promptly return used shuttles and score sheets to the head table.

6. Substitutions may take place up to the player’s first match provided the substitute has not been placed in another position with the tournament. I will take calls to my home through Wednesday night for switching players around but then, the only changes will follow the rule mentioned above. This is because everything will have gone to press and the draw will be able to be seen by everyone.

7. Awards: Trophies to the 1st place winners and medals with drapes to 1, 2, 3, 4, and consolation winners.

8. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated on the courts. Use of profanity on the court or verbal intimidation toward an opponent will result in disqualification and forfeit of the match.

9. Coaches meeting at 8:30 in the PE Classroom with Singles play beginning at 9 am.

10. Both gyms will be used for more than half of the tournament and then only the large gym will be used for the finals.

SPECIAL SCORING: There will be no 3rd games played in this tournament. If each team wins a game, then we will add the scores together to determine a winner. If the score is still tied, then the winner of the second game is the winner of the match. This applies to all matches thru the finals.

COACHING BETWEEN GAMES: There will be no coaching by the coach or anyone else between games. This is a fun tournament for the athletes. Remember, PLAY IS CONTINUOUS BETWEEN GAMES.

GUARANTEES: You will get to play 2 games. This is not a double elimination tournament, you will not get 2 losses. This is a consolation bracket tournament. If YOU LOSE YOUR SECOND GAME, you are out of the tournament, whether you won your first game or not. The first game determines whether you will move to the right side (winner's bracket) or the left side (consolation bracket). We have added a drop from the winner's side quarter finals into a play-off bracket for 3rd and 4th. Because of this special addition, we will adjust the E and F drops from the semi-finals so that you will not play the same girl that you lost to in the winner's bracket. This can only be done on game day after the match is completed. Again, this is because all other tournaments only drop the semi's into the playoffs for 3rd and 4th and we are also dropping the quarter-finals losers into the playoffs for 3rd and 4th.

TIME LIMITS:
5 minute warm up time limit
5 minute injury time out
10 minutes guaranteed between matches

GAMES COMMITTEE: Barb Adams, Athletic Director ... Nancy Ellis, Dobson ... Jennifer Ray, Corona ... Charlie Fritsche, South Mt.
