4-23-15.
Rome!!! We are overwhelmed by this wonderful city. Ship docked this am in
Citavecchia (the port of Rome) which about 90 min coach (aka bus) ride from
downtown Rome. There are a zillion cars the size of refrigerators and equal
amount of scooters. People everywhere and streets the same size as they were
in Roman times. Ruins are just spectacular--circus Maximus (Ben Hur filmed
there), Roman Forum and the colosseum (can almost see the gladiators). Walked
a ton today, wonderful lunch at Cassanova Trattoria then more walking to Vatican
City and St. Peter's Basilica in the afternoon. Fabulous day but so much input
we are wiped out tonite. Early to bed and on to north coast town of Santa
Margherita Ligure tomorrow. Weather continues to be wonderful---68-70 and
light breeze. No rain...seas are calm. Toni in heaven here in her mother country!
