We had a short drive from Litchfield National Park north to Darwin where we turned in our campervan. It was a bit sad to say goodbye to our cozy home for the last month, but new adventures await. Darwin, the capital city of the Northern Territory with a population of around 140,000, is a booming metropolis compared to where we've been. Our hotel was in the central business district and we arrived early enough to spend the afternoon walking and taking in the sights.

This is the waterfront area. There is a sea wall creating a safe swimming beach and wave pool. The orange & white structures in the lagoon are huge blowup water slides and play equipment. There are lots of shops & restaurants surrounding the area.

The tropical vegetation was cool. This is banyan tree. There are so many branches & roots that are intertwined.

We enjoyed the walk over to Stokes Hill Wharf in the background.

We went to this museum that made use of a variety technology. Besides movies, there were holograms and a virtual reality experience depicting the bombing of Darwin Harbor. The VR experiences was cool, but a bid disorienting. Every time you moved, something different was coming at you. We experienced underwater, bombs going off all around, flying and falling out of a plane after being shot down!---

There was a RFDS plane we could walk through.

Had to have a seat in the cockpit!

There were holograms through both exhibits. Here we’re hearing about life as a nurse for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The nurses are all independent contractors.

The restaurants along Mitchell Street were all busy early on Friday evening. Many had outdoor seating and most were open air.
