May 26, 2019 ..... Back to the welcome page and listings for other links
Spent the
day around Kununurra and then a short drive on to Lake Argyle. Kununurra is
a small town built on big dreams. It was developed to service the Ord River
irrigation schemes for crops in the area. The main crops are sandalwood, mangoes,
chia, citrus and melons. It's also the gateway for adventuring in the east
Kimberley region.

The
caravan park was located on Lake Kununurra and it had a coffee shop! |
Celebrity
tree park next to the caravan park, great spot for a morning walk. The
Boabs range from beautiful to grotesque. |
|
We
walked up to Kellys Knob. |
The
staircase was a welcome sight after climbing up a few steep spots. The
water in the distance is Lake Kununurra where we spent last night. |
|
We
did a walk at Mirima National Park up to a lookout right outside of
Kununurra. |
So
many colors on the sandstone cliffs. |
|
The
staircase made for good footing to enjoy the views! |
There
was more vegetation in the shady areas. |
|
We
drove back to Lake Argyle, 70km from Kununurra. There werent many
cars, stunning scenery and crossed a stream that wasnt dry. Lake
Argyle is a huge man made lake thats part of the Ord River irrigation
project. |
We
werent prepared for Lake Argyle Resort! The caravan park was large
with lots of activity, a restaurant, gift shop, beer garden and many
tour options. Heres the infinity pool overlooking the lake. We
did go for a dip but didnt stay in long, it was cool! |
|
These
bats, black flying fox, were hanging out in the outdoor beer garden/restaurant. |
After
dinner we were entertained with live music. The kids enjoyed the music
too and provided us additional entertainment. |
