Today we left Broome and headed to Derby on King Sound at the mouth of the Fitzroy River. Derby experiences the highest tides in Australia, over 11 meters. At low tide mud flats are exposed. I think our beach strolls are over. One of Derby's attractions is the Boab trees.

Boab trees have massive trunks. The leaves fall during the dry season enhancing their drought tolerance.

This Boab surprised us, it’s quite healthy in spite of an empty base!

We did a heritage walk through town. The interpretive panels, shaped like little Boabs, gave a brief history of Derby. Large Boab trees were down the center of Main Street.
