We're spending a few days in Broome, staying at a caravan park near Cable Beach, 22km of beautiful sand. Cable Beach was named after the telegraph cable laid between Broome and Java, 1650km long, in 1889.

Enjoying an early morning walk along the beach before it gets hot. High daytime temps are in the mid 90’s with higher humidity.

Liana vines cover the dunes.

Bougainvillea on the walk to town.

Camel rides along Cable Beach are a popular tourist activity. Here we are on Kadesh.

Still wandering along Cable Beach.

Introduction to camels. The different tour operators named by the color of the blankets. There were blue, red and yellow.

There were 14 camels in our group. This company has 35 camels that have all been rescued.

Lots of vehicles on this stretch of beach. The sand is so hard, the camels didn’t leave any tracks. Great for walking!

Cool shadows!

No camel prints in the sand. Camels aren’t indigenous to Australia but they have flourished. In fact the populations have grown so much, over a million, they are a nuisance to stations in the outback. Camels are looking for water, damaging fences, water troughs & air conditioners.

Many people out enjoying the beach waiting for sunset.

Awesome!
