We drove
from Karijini Park to Port Hedland. Once we turned on the Great Northwest
Highway we encountered many, many road trains hauling iron ore.

They
mean No services, nothing! We stopped at Minjina. |
This was a common sight out the front window, not a road for bicycling. The road trains have 4 buggies. Fortunately there were many long straight stretches and we could pass occasionally. |
|
These
ore ships being loaded out. There are 2 here loading and we counted
18 anchored out in the bay waiting. |
The
other export out of Port Hedland is salt. This was one of several mountains
of salt. |
|
Kicking
back at the caravan park. No black budgies! |
Eating dinner at the street fair just outside the caravan park. |
|
The
street fair was celebrating staircase to the moon. This phenomenon happens
around the full moon and low tide. A viewing platform held some of the
folks, there were lots along the dunes and the beach waiting for the
moon. |
Walked
along the beach to the incoming river. It was low tide, the ocean was
a kilometer away. |
|
We
bought a cutting board/acrylic art piece from a local vendor. |
Staircase
to the moon, it was really cool! |
