Today we
drove from Denham to Quobba Station, a longer drive with few services along
the way. Just a roadhouse until we got to Carnarvon, where we ate, restocked
the fridge and refueled before heading on to Quobba Station

We
stopped at shell beach, no sand only shells! |
The
beach is up to 10 meters deep with tiny shells and stretches over 60km! |
|
Feral
animals have caused extinction of native animals by habitat destruction
and competition for food. 1080 poison is being used to eliminate the
feral animals, which has lead to recovery of the vegetation and reintroduction
of wildlife. The use of the poison is controversial. |
This
marker shows the high water marks for flooding of the Gascoyne River
just north of Carnarvon. |
|
Quobba
Station, a working pastoral station with 80km of Indian Ocean as its
western boundary. It was a beautiful spot to watch the sun set in the
ocean and stargazing. |
Heading
out the boardwalk at Hamelin Pool to view the stromatolites, dome formations
created by microscopic organisms. These organisms are some of the earliest
forms of life. |
|
An
unknown fish crushing through the stromatolites. |
Carnarvon
is an important horticultural area for Western Australia. There is an
abundance of fruits & vegetables produced here. We passed through
many growing areas on the way out of town. |
|
Walking
along the beach at Quobba Station, finding all kinda of interesting
shells. |
Enjoying
the different shells and colors. |
