Today we
went on a kayak & wildlife adventure with Wula Gura Nyinda Eco Adventures
exploring Shark Bay in Francois Peron National Park, a world heritage area.
Capes, our local guide, was personable and passionate about this area and
his culture.
Our email address is gusrox30@gmail.com.

The
road to Big Lagoon, the launch site, was 4-wheel drive and required
deflating the tires to half the normal pressure. The was deflation/inflation
station on each side of the road providing instruction and air hoses. |
The
road was narrow with deep sand. We stopped several times along the way.
Capes showed us tracks, talked about medicinal plants and bush foods. |
|
Preparing
to launch. |
Having
some fun! The colors of the water and surrounding landscape are amazing! |
|
The
water was so clear. |
We
think this was a shovelnosed ray. Capes tried, unsuccessfully, to sneak
up and catch it by hand. |
|
Capes
showed us where to find drinkable water. Follow kangaroos who dig holes
indicating water. Emus lead to edible plants. Were ready for a
walkabout in the bush, NOT! |
Capes
shared an aboriginal custom. You bring a handful of red sand to the
white sand at the waters edge. Make a handprint in the sand, sprinkle
the edges with the red sand. This is to remind us life is fleeting,
nothing lasts forever. |
|
We
had grilled fish cooked on the barbie on the beach. The
acacia twig is a fly swatter, trying to keep the bush flies at bay.
Its hard to eat with a headnet on! |
Capes,
our guide, grilling dinner. On the way back to Denham we stopped at
an outdoor artesian hot tub for a soak. Perfect end to a great day! |
