Day 61 - Antigo, WI to New London, WI - 73 miles ....... 2608 total miles
Another beautiful day riding thru Wisconsin, sunny skies, 75 degrees, rolling hills, helping wind, little traffic along scenic country roads. Doesn't get much better! We noticed colorful designs on some of the barns. At a lunch stop the waitress told us about barn quilts, ah.....that's what we're seeing. Many states have developed barn quilt trails. We learned there are over 200 barn quilts in this county with a map of the locations. Tonight we're in New London planning our route for tomorrow and making reservations for the ferry across Lake Michigan.

Day 62 - New London, WI to Manitowoc, WI -
73 miles ...... 2681 total miles
The hours attending to route planning and other "administrative details" last night proved fruitful. We rode on scenic country roads with light traffic. Our route was a little treasure hunt again with many turns. We witnessed the aftermath of the Wednesday night storm on almost every property we passed, chainsaws were buzzing cutting up the down tree. There were 5 tornados embedded in the storm. The counties we rode thru today were the hardest hit and some areas are still without power. Tonight we're staying on the shore of Lake Michigan in Manitowoc, enjoying an adult beverage on the patio looking out at the lake. It's huge, can't see the other side! Tomorrow we're heading across on the ferry.

There are over 200 barns decorated with "quilt" patterns in Shawano County. They are actually made of wood & painted. There are publications all over the US listing quilt trails.

From fields & farms to forest in just a few miles. Haven't seen this many trees for awhile!

Karen & Alan sent us a detailed bike map of WI. Thank you, thank you, thank you! The last few days our routes looked like this list. Who knows where we might have ended up using our internal compasses? Wisconsin has been added to our "need to explore more" list. Too much fun!

More lawn art....is this what bicycle retirement is?

We have ridden by at least 1 cemetery every day, more like 3 or 4 usually.
Like most of the homes & farms, these are well taken care of.

The straight line route indicates lack of services (lodging & food) on the smaller roads. As it was,
we had 30-40 mile stretches of farms & fields before finding what we needed. We really
enjoyed the zigging & the zagging of the smaller roads & were finding services frequently.
Beautiful scenery throughout the route though.

This looks like a quiet evening on the patio overlooking Lake Michigan......
we were sharing the patio with an enthusiastic youth baseball team.
Did we ever have that much energy?? It was a beautiful setting.
