GOLDEN
HILLS COURSE SET UP: RED TEES
Updated November 2, 2025
Rules:
All play will be conducted under the USGA Rules of Golf
I. Hole
# 1
There is a ditch along the right side of the number one fairway.
If a ball lands in this ditch it may be lifted out and dropped
one club-length from the ditch, no closer to the hole. (No
penalty).
II. Hole
# 7
To the right and about four house down from the red tees,
there is a brick-lined planter outside the property fence.
If a ball should land in the 'planter' area it may be lifted
out and dropped one club-length away, no closer to the hole.
(No penalty).
III.
Hole # 10
There is a patch of man-made rocks and pine trees to the immediate
left of the tenth fairway a short distance from the tee-box.
If a ball should land in that area, a free drop is permitted,
one club-length from the edge of the rocks and no closer to
the hole. (No penalty).
IV. Miscellaneous
A. Out
of Bounds (OB) or lost ball-- Alternative to Stroke and Distance:
If a
ball is hit out of bounds, the player has two options:
a. The
player may bring the ball back into the fairway keeping the
line straight then drop the ball; or if the ball is lost,
drop a new ball in the same manner at the most likely place
it crossed to out of bounds - Penalty is two (2) strokes.
b. The player has the option to go back to the origin of the
shot and hit again from that point. Penalty is one (1) stroke.
NOTE:
If still on the Tee, the player has the option to declare
a provisional ball, or to use the alternative rule and drop
as indicated above. Once you have hit the provisional ball,
this alternative rule is no longer in affect for this hole.
If you find your original ball, and it is in bounds, the original
ball is in play and the provisional is not in play.
B. Ground
under Repair (GUR):
Remember
to keep in mind 'abnormal course conditions'. According to
the USGA Rule #16, 'abnormal course conditions' are considered
GUR. A free lift is allowable without penalty. The player
is allowed one club-length no closer to the hole. If there
is an unmarked area that is questionable, or is 'abnormal
course conditions', use your discretion, consult the members
in your foursome to reach a consensus. GUR includes burrowing
animal holes or mounds, and grass piles or other debris that
cannot be moved and should not be on the course.
C. Immovable
Obstruction:
All
yardage markers, water coolers, cart path, ropes/chains and
their support posts are immovable obstructions. Relief is
provided only if the obstruction interferes with your stance
or the area of your intended swing. If the obstruction intervenes
on the line of play, no relief is provided. (No penalty. If
a ball is inside of a chain/post on the OB side, your ball
is considered OB.
If a
ball should land next to an electrical or cable box, the ball
may be dropped two club-lengths from the wall or box, no closer
to the hole. (No penalty).
D. Marking
Your Ball:
You may
use any object to mark your ball, making sure that the ball
is replaced in the same spot from which you removed it. However,
the preferred method is to place the marker behind the ball,
then lift the ball. Always place the marker prior to lifting
the ball. When you replace the ball you will then always place
the ball directly in front of the marker before removing the
marker.
E. Relief
& Penalty Strokes
a. Free
relief is one (1) club-length
b. Penalty
relief is two (2) club-lengths from your 'nearest point of
relief'.
If a player is unsure about a ruling, get the consensus of
your foursome. If the player doesn't agree with their foursome,
the player has the option of playing a second ball for that
hole, waiting until they return to the clubhouse to get a
ruling from the Rules Chair or Committee. If a second ball
is player for a hole, the player must keep the score for both
balls.
