Feel free to drop a note and say hello anytime!
The
rain continued in Whitehorse, capitol of the Yukon, and largest city
in northern Canada. We walked along the Yukon River which was high &
flowing swiftly. |
We
visited Lumel Glass Blowing Studios, a community studio with workshops,
events & a gallery. Visitors can watch glass blowers or get instruction
to create their own masterpieces. |
Mrs
Armstrong (left) & the owner of Lumel Studios (right) pose with
a 1950s steam point used to melt the frozen ground in front of gold
dredges. |
It
worked!!! |
Yukon
Visitor Center in Haines Junction. A beautiful building & interpretive
center. A great view of a hanging sculpture with the St. Elias mountains
in the background. |
The
air was hazy due to wildfire smoke obscuring the mountain views of Klune
National Park but this grizzly didn't mind! We also saw several moose. |
Permafrost
is ground that remains frozen year after year which presents challenges
for road building and maintenance. Northern climates continue to research
& develop innovative techniques to prevent melting. Some are effective
and others no so much. The poles along the roadside are a recent effort. |
Met
the owner of this car works at the Beaver Creek Visitor center. We think
it's a Model A Ford. He has 10 restored cars he drives to work. |
Made it to the border!! Only 296 miles to go |
We
found this BIG mosquito outside the Knotty Shop in Salcha, Alaska. |
In
the 40s a man living in North Pole Alaska dressed as Santa every year.
In 52 his family decided to build a trading post. A youngster walking
by recognized him as said "Hello Santa Claus, are you building
a new house?" That name stuck, The Santa Claus House. |
Welcome
to our old stomping ground! |
