NOTES ON VIENNA AND AUSTRIA IN GENERAL 10-14 Tues

Austria is a country of 8 million people and is bordered by eight countries: Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Italy. No wonder the Nazi’s used it to invade other countries. More than half the country is mountainous and includes 3 mountain chains running west to east---Northern Limestone Alps, the Central (high) Alps having the tallest peaks in Austria, and the Southern Limestone Alps. Languages is mostly Germany except for areas close to the surrounding border countries. From now on the currency is Euros. Only Hungary and Czech Republic have their own currencies.

We will go through 69 locks on this trip. (mostly at night). This one we all got to watch in action when we left Vienna our way to Melk Austria
